Release history

This page lists the public releases of the narrative fiscal consolidation dataset. The paper replication dataset is preserved as a fixed version so the findings in the accompanying IMF working papers can be reproduced. Future annual updates will be released separately.

Paper replication dataset

• File: dataset.dta (at the root of the repository)
• Status: authoritative replication dataset for the two IMF working papers listed on the home page.
• Coverage: annual series of narrative fiscal consolidations for 16 Sub‑Saharan African countries from 1990 onward, with variables tax, spend, and total.
• Stability: preserved unchanged — updates will be published as separate annual releases rather than overwriting this file.

Future annual updates

Annual updates of the narrative dataset will be released here. Each update will be documented with release notes summarising coverage changes, additions to episodes, and any methodological revisions.
